お花見

昔々、中国から梅の花を楽しむ習慣が日本へ伝わり、それが西暦800年ごろになると「桜」に変わりました。花見はそれから現在まで続く４月の恒例行事です。

最初は貴族の宴でしたが、江戸時代になると将軍が江戸（現在の東京）の各地に桜を植え、庶民も花見を楽しむようになりました。

もちろん現代の日本人も花見が大好きです。開花が近くなると心がウキウキしてきます。

皆さんも機会があったら、お花見をしてみてください。

O-hanami

A long time ago, the practice of enjoying plum flowers was introduced from China into Japan. In 800 AD, instead of plum flowers, Japanese has taken to cherry blossom viewing. Since then, hanami is an established schedule that takes place in April.

At first, hanami (Cherry Blossom viewing) was enjoyed at the nobles’ banquets but, during the Edo era, the shogun (Military General) planted sakura all over Edo (present day Tokyo), so even commoners are able to enjoy hanami.

Of course, even today’s Japanese people like hanami a lot. When the flowers are about to blossom, people become merry. If you have the chance, please try out o-hanami.

バレンタインディ＆ホワイトディ

2月14日の「バレンタインディ」の一ヶ月後は「ホワイトディ」と呼ばれ、バレンタインディで結ばれた二人が再び愛を誓う日と言われています。日本ではバレンタインディには女性から男性にチョコレートをあげ、カップルになった場合はホワイトディに男性からキャンディなどのプレゼントが贈られます。プレゼントを選ぶのが下手な男性のためにデパートには専用の売り場が作られます。http://www.mitsukoshi.co.jp/whiteday

日本だけでなく、韓国、台湾、中国の一部でも「ホワイトディ」が行われているそうです。

さらにおもしろいことに、韓国には「ブラックディ」という日があって、バレンタインディやホワイトディで恋人ができなかった寂しい男女が黒い服を着て黒いものを食べたり飲んだりするのだそうです。

 

Valentine’s Day and White day

One month after Valentine’s Day (14 February) is White day, on which couples who confirmed their relationship on Valentine’s Day swear their love again. In Japan, on Valentine’s Day, women give chocolates to men. When they become couples, candy etc. is given by the man to the woman on White day. White day is celebrated not only in Japan, but  in South Korea, Taiwan and even some parts of China. Even more interestingly, in South Korea, there is a day called Black day, for those lonely men and women who could not find lovers on Valentine’s day and White day to  wear black clothes, eat and drink black food and drink.
